Issues

Top issues Annazette Collins believes in...

1.) Women’s right to choose
I firmly believe in a woman’s right to choose. I also firmly believe in educating all, men and women, on and about the issues dealing with pregnancy. I do not believe that abortion should become another form of birth control.

There are circumstances that put women in the situation of bearing children, some they can prevent and some they cannot.

2.) Safety/ Justice (West Side)
It’s not hard to determine the outcome of where a neighborhood or even a community will be maybe twenty to thirty years from as long as you have a clear roadmap as to where you want to go.

Extolling the historical and cultural diversity as well as the sureness of Chicago, our community has withstood times of depression and flourished in times of success. But, what lacks is that constant communal and neighborhood responsibility that has stood for the blocks and neighborhoods that we live in. I believe that it is very important for us to take responsibility for where we stay. It starts with us and all it takes is a connection.

3.) Health Care
I am in full support of health care for all Americans.

Not just the health care to fix what is wrong at that this time but to make sure that all Americans are becoming healthier.

When you look at statistics you find that it is our community where the people who are getting sicker, aging worse and also dying at a severely higher rate than like situated communities. We are living in a country that spends high amount of money on health care and it is time that the ones of us who need it the most have the same access as others.

Again, we must take responsibility. Prevention is a very high priority in health awareness. We need to insure that all our neighborhoods have access to hospitals or facilities that are capable and staffed to handle the issues of the neighborhood. We need more and better doctors.

I believe that with all of this taken into consideration as your representative and your voice in the legislature that it is my duty to advocate and provide a stable and more sustainable health care for the people.

4.) Children’s Safety
There is no other way to protect our future than by protecting our children.

It is our responsibility.

It is our responsibility to provide them with a safe, educational and nurturing environment that will not allow harm to come to them. I am in full allegiance in providing the youth with safety and security. I am also in full support of providing them with resources and educational opportunities so that they can advance and have a brighter tomorrow.

I believe:

  • There should be more empowerment programs;
  • Job readiness and training programs;
  • More children focused activities in the school system and recreational centers;
  • Under-privileged children are being afforded the same opportunities as privileged youth;
  • Homes are provided for those in need, and if not we need to make sure that they are in foster houses that are focused on cultivating them. In order to ensure a healthy tomorrow we need to make sure that the leaders of tomorrows are taken care of and it starts at the root of childhood.
